CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A 33-year-old man is facing charges for driving under the influence and discharging a firearm while driving, Cape Coral police said.

Sunday evening, witnesses say they saw Christopher Benetatos point a firearm out the window of his moving vehicle and shoot a round off into the air near Cape Coral Parkway and Chiquita Boulevard.

The witness was able to describe the vehicle to officers who later located Benetatos’s white Jeep near the 2200 block of SW 7th Place.

Benetatos was driving under the speed limit and swerving within the lane, police said.

After pulling the Jeep over, officers found a loaded rifle sitting in between the center console and front passenger seat. A loaded Glock 22 firearm and a Ruger firearm were found inside the center console, authorities said.

Police say Benatatos refused to participate in a field sobriety test although he almost fell over while talking with officers and had to be assisted while standing.

Benatatos was later transported to the Lee County Jail.
