Pedestrian allegedly at fault in crash that blocked Del Prado

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A pedestrian who was seriously hurt after being hit by a car is at fault for a collision that temporarily closed a stretch of Del Prado Boulevard on Monday night, Cape Coral police said.

Cape resident Amanda J. Williams, 39, was intoxicated when she attempted to cross Del Prado at the intersection with Viscaya Parkway, according to police. Williams told police that she entered the crosswalk even though the electronic signal warned against walking because she didn’t see any vehicles approaching, a police report shows.

However, fellow Cape resident William W. Prater, 20, had a green light and turned his Volkswagen Jetta into the intersection, striking Williams, who was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries that aren’t life-threatening. Prater was unhurt but the crash damaged the car’s windshield and driver’s side mirror.

Traffic was briefly rerouted in the wake of the collision, which took place at about 10 p.m.
