BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – A 19-year-old man was found dead early Sunday morning after a report of multiple gunshots, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jordan Valero heard an intruder at his home at 10700 Goodwin St. and got out of bed, according to his roommate, Daniel Kirby, who was in the home at the time of the incident. Kirby said he then heard at least six gunshots. When he went to check on Valero, Kirby said he saw the 19-year-old on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. But the intruder was gone, he said.

“I came out and they were gone. Ten seconds,” Kirby said.

He then called 9-1-1. Valero was found dead inside the home at about 1:46 a.m., said investigators who are looking into the incident as a homicide.

A large presence of investigators were seen on Goodwin Street Sunday afternoon. Kirby said he was unable to reenter the home since earlier that morning when his friend was reportedly shot.

Friends of Valero said they are shocked to lose him so suddenly. They remember him as a great guy who put others first.

“I can honestly say I am proud to have known him and I’m proud that I was able to tell him how much he meant to me before he left,” Cameron Luckett, a close friend, said. “Like real brother. He did nothing but show me and Kirby love. He took care of us like blood and so I can’t believe it.”

“There is no threat to the community at large,” LCSO said in a statement Sunday morning.

No further information was immediately available.
