Cape mayor weds man she filed restraining order against

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral mayor Marni Sawicki is now known as Marni Retzer in the wake of her recent marriage to a firefighter against whom she recently filed a restraining order.

The marriage between the mayor and Kenneth Retzer, a city employee, doesn’t break any rules, the city said in a statement. “The only time it becomes an issue is if one of the parties is a direct supervisor of a family member,” the statement read. That’s not the case in this situation.

The restraining order was filed less than two months ago. Regardless, the mayor’s name has been changed on the city’s website.
