CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral police say they continue to investigate a four-vehicle crash that killed a man and shut down Veterans Memorial Parkway near the intersection with Country Club Boulevard for several hours Monday evening.

Cape resident Jose Abraham Nieves, 52, died at the hospital from the injuries he suffered in the wreck, police said. Another man from Cape Coral, 42-year-old Joseph Anthony Mancini, suffered serious injuries. He’s in critical but stable condition, according to a police press release.

Mireille Louis Jean, 54, of Lehigh Acres, was also hurt, but her injuries were minor, police said.

The wreck happened when Mancini suffered what police describe as an apparent medical event while driving a Silver 2013 Hyundai westbound on Veterans. The Hyundai crossed the median and collided with the blue 2009 Dodge that Nieves was driving eastbound, police said.

The Hyundai spun and crossed back over the median, striking a black 2015 Ford that was stopped in a turn lane, as police detailed. The driver of the Ford, 50-year-old Cape resident Steven Scott Pawlowski, was said to be unhurt.

The Hyundai didn’t stop until after it collided with a third car, a gray 2008 Toyota that Jean was driving, police said. Neither alcohol nor drugs are thought to be a factor in the crash.
