FORT MYERS, Fla. – The national debate over public breastfeeding has arrived in Southwest Florida where Mayor Randy Henderson has declared today International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding. Florida law allows women to breastfeed in any public place. Mothers cannot be arrested if her breast or nipple is exposed as she feeds her child. Mayor Henderson’s proclamation coincides with the anniversary of the Normalize Breastfeeding movement, which was founded by Vanessa Simmons in 2015 in an effort to challenge taboos about breasts.
