Hundreds fill Collier commission chambers in opposition to proposed gas station

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. – Hundreds of residents were fighting a proposed RaceTrac gas station that could be built on US-41 near the Naples Bay Resort at a commissioner meeting Thursday.

Representatives for the gas station are asking the county to waive a rule so they can build within 500 feet from a gas station across the street. But neighbors have said for the past two years that they fear the gas station will bring down home values, create unwanted traffic, noise and light pollution.

Thursday’s meeting was an opportunity for neighbors to express their concerns to a hearing examiner. RaceTrac representatives will also speak to the hearing examiner and the vote on the gas station will take place on a later date.
