Details emerge about relationship between missing 9-year-old, person of interest

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. — The ex-girlfriend of a person of interest in the case of a missing San Carlos Park girl tells WINK News she observed several disturbing clues that Jorge Guerrero and Diana Alvarez had an inappropriate relationship.

Alvarez, 9, told Guerrero she wanted to marry him when she grew up, the ex-girlfriend said. Guerrero told his ex that Alvarez was so possessive and jealous of him that the 9-year-old once bit him after he hugged a woman.

Alvarez has been missing from her home on Unique Circle since the morning of May 29. Guerrero, who was listed in the AMBER Alert issued for the girl, is behind bars and facing child pornography charges after being taken into custody nearly a week ago.

It is unknown whether Alvares is the child pictured in alleged pornographic images on Guerrero’s phone. Federal authorities are still trying to make a connection between the images and Alvarez.

The ex-girlfriend of Guerrero, who broke up with him about a year ago, says she never saw anything unusual on his phone but never really looked. Authorities haven’t questioned her.

Guerrero, who maintains he was not in Lee County when Alvarez disappeared, used to live at the Alvarez home, but family members became concerned about his relationship with the 9-year-old, and he moved out May 2.

Several local, state and federal agencies have scoured a handful of areas across the state as the search for Alvarez continues. A $6,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the missing girl. If anyone knows her whereabouts or spots her, they’re asked to call 239-477-1000 or 911 immediately so authorities can dispatch a deputy to that location, the Lee County sheriff’s office said.
