MGN FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina woman is accused of defrauding a 71-year-old Florida man of nearly $100,000 from his retirement account. The Herald of Rock Hill reports that 54-year-old Brenda Washington, of Fort Mill, was arrested Saturday and extradited to Florida’s Columbia County. Lake City police said in a news release that Washington began fraudulently cashing checks from the retirement account of the victim in August 2015, cashing five checks totaling more than $98,000 over a two-month period. Relatives of the man say Washington forged documents to get access to his retirement account. Washington is facing charges of grand larceny and passing a counterfeit instrument, among other charges. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney.
