CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A 15-year-old shot after pointing a gun at officers during a three-hour standoff has been arrested, the Cape Coral Police Department said Tuesday.

The teen, who WINK News is not identifying, is facing multiple charges including armed burglary, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Officers responded to the 500 block of NW 8th Terrace for a vehicle burglary shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday. Authorities say the teenage suspect fled into a nearby canal where officers spent hours trying to talk him out of the water.

The 15-year-old is also facing charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle after police uncovered he used a vehicle reported stolen last week in Cape Coral to get to the neighborhood where he was found committing the car burglary.

Detectives also linked the teen to a burglary shortly after midnight on Monday at R&W Guns, 303 NE 3rd Avenue. Nothing was taken from the business but approximately $600 in damage was done to the door, police said.
