Woman pushing stroller struck, killed by SUV in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – A woman pushing a baby stroller was struck and killed by an SUV at Appleton Boulevard and Baystate Drive early Friday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Mariah Klinefelter, 35, of Pittsburgh, Pa. was walking along the right paved portion of Appleton Boulevard while pushing a stroller with her five-month-old son in it when she was hit by a car travelling in the same direction, FHP said.

The five-month-old was transported with serious injuries but Klinefelter’s injuries were fatal, FHP said. The SUV driver, a middle-aged man who lives in the area, was not injured.

The wreck happened at about 7:22 a.m. in the South Gulf Cove neighborhood, authorities said.

It is unknown at this time of the driver of the SUV will face any charges.
