LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A father is facing a DCF investigation after his two children were found dirty, scared and lost in their own neighborhood, according to authorities.

Neighbors said it was strange to see the children walking around alone.

“We’ve never seen children out here, never. We are all by ourselves out on these roads and nobody let’s their children go anywhere,” Dave Williams said.

Williams said he saw a little boy and girl running up to his house on Wednesday evening. The boy was carrying a roll of toilet paper.

“The little girl had a knapsack on her back and they looked scared and confused,” Williams said. “About 20 minutes later we had five or six police cars out here.”

A woman also spotted the children a block away near a deep wooded area, records show. She noticed them peaking through her front window and called deputies, according to a report. When deputies arrived, they took the kids back to their house and questioned their father, a report said.

The father told deputies his kids were inside taking a nap, according to records.

According to the report, the boy is 7-years-old and the girl is 5. DCF is investigating this incident, but it is unclear whether the father will face any charges, according to the report.
