FGCU beats Michigan to advance to WNIT Championship Game

In front of a sold-out crowd of 4,633 the FGCU women’s basketball team beat Michigan, 71-62 to advance to the WNIT championship game. The Eagles led 28-22 at the half but the Wolverines battled back and took a brief one point lead with 2:44 to play. The Eagles answered with three pointers from Stephanie Haas and Kaneisha Atwater before sealing the game with free throws.

Haas led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-9 from the field off the bench. Atwater added 18 points and Whitney Knight chipped in with 17 for the Eagles who won despite getting outrebounded, 45-25.

FGCU (33-5) will play at the University of South Dakota (31-6) on Saturday at 2:00 for the WNIT title. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
