FGCU edges out Michigan with WNIT semifinal win, 71-62

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU’s Women’s Basketball team beat Michigan at Alico Arena for the WNIT semifinal game on Thursday, 71-62.

The tournament win was the last home game of the post season. It alone costed the school $31,000.

FGCU has spent a total of $122,000 hosting the WNIT tournament at Alico Arena.

Between the game and a previously scheduled trade show, 6,000 to 7,000 people were expected to pass through Alico Arena on Thursday.

It was a packed house when the game began at 8 p.m. The victory sends the team to the WNIT championship game in Vermillion, South Dakota.
