NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- A fatal pedestrian crash on Pine Island Road between Woodward Avenue and U.S. 41 is under investigation, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Monday, officials said. The victim was killed after being struck by two vehicles, according to FHP.

“We found out there was a pedestrian struck, an initial vehicle that left the scene,” said Lt. Greg Bueno with FHP.

The second vehicle to hit the pedestrian, a blue pick-up truck, did stay on the scene, authorities said.

“We’re looking for the initial impact, we suspect it’s obviously going to have some front end damage,” Bueno said. “At this point, we don’t have a make or model that we’re able to share but we are investigating.”

Pine Island Road reopened just before 11 a.m. after being shut down for hours while authorities investigated.

The first vehicle involved in the crash is described as a 1988 to 1992 Chevrolet pick-up or SUV with damage to the right front amber marker lens, FHP said. The color of the vehicle is unknown at this time.
