GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) – Fire officials in Maryland say eight firefighters were injured in a collapse at a burning townhouse in Germantown.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials say the fire broke out in a home early Monday.

Fire Chief Scott Goldstein says in a video message posted online that the firefighters were injured when the front wall of the home and the second floor collapsed. He says the injured firefighters were taken to an area hospital, including one firefighter who has serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Goldstein says about 120 personnel were called to the scene of the fire that spread to neighboring homes, displacing three families. He says investigators are trying to determine the fire’s cause.
