Severe storms expected Wednesday afternoon

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A storm system that ripped through southern states and parts of the Florida Panhandle will hit Southwest Florida this afternoon. WINK Weather Meteorologist Scott Zedeker says we can expect to see some strong to severe storms.

The system is expected to bring winds over 60 miles per hour. We can also expect to see the heavy rain and lightening typically associated with those storms, as well as some property damage from heavy winds.

Zedeker says there is also the potential for isolated tornadoes.

Rain showers and potential strong thunderstorms are expected to move into Southwest Florida around 12 p.m. and remain until around 5 p.m. Today’s high is expected to reach 79 degrees.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado hit Pensacola, Florida. There are reports of property damage and injuries.
