Sheriff: I don’t ‘tolerate’ behavior of resigned LSCO deputy

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A traffic deputy has resigned from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office after an internal affairs investigation determined she violated several department policies while on duty.

Former deputy Selena Lee submitted her resignation Feb. 18. She was found to have willfully violated procedures, misused communication facilities, and displayed conduct “unbecoming” of an officer,  and was insubordinate to her superiors, according to the internal investigations report.

The report states during the week of Dec. 19- Dec. 21, was involved in several incidents while she worked as a traffic deputy including driving recklessly, failing to assist a crash victim and not calling her supervisor to notify him of a medical assistance call that resulted in a death, which could’ve jeopardized the investigation.

Lee also sent “sensitive information” to her personal address, which the internal investigation called an “unauthorized email address” while she was on a call for a single-vehicle crash. She told deputies that she wanted to keep a record of her interactions with a sergeant but in during that process, she overwhelmed the LCSO server.

The former deputy’s behavior on the job was noted as “unprofessional”and “apathetic” in the report. Her performance for those several days of December was a departure from her advanced training and multiple years working as a traffic deputy.

“Selena Lee consistently fell far short of expectations and resigned while under investigation. We hold our members to a high standard, and I don’t tolerate the behavior she demonstrated,” said Sheriff Mike Scott in a statement.

Lee thanked Scott in her brief resignation letter, writing that it was in her “best interest to discontinue” her employment.
