FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jimmy Ray Rodgers, one of the two men charged with killing Dr. Teresa Sievers, arrived in Lee County early Tuesday morning after serving six months in federal prison for a probation violation in an unrelated gun case. Rodgers, 25, has received most of the attention surrounding the case due to hundreds of memes from his Facebook account, most of which depict violence and were posted days before Sievers’ death, and his girlfriend, Taylor Shomaker, who in a sworn statement said he admitted to killing Sievers for insurance money. Sievers, 46, was found bludgeoned to death with a hammer inside the kitchen of her Bonita Springs home in June 2015. Wayne Wright, 47, the best friend of Sievers’ husband, Mark, is charged with second-degree murder. Investigators allege Mark Sievers’ involvement, but he has not been charged. Rodgers’ first court appearance will be on Wednesday. He remained in the Lee County jail Tuesday under no bond.
