FORT MYERS, Fla. – The death of a man in the Colonnades community, just off I-75 in Fort Myers, is being investigated as a homicide, according to a police report released Thursday. The body of 38-year-old Fernando Perez was found inside a home at 3259 Antica St. early Wednesday morning, Fort Myers police said. Neighbors say they heard gunshots around 4 a.m., then saw the large police presence and a crime scene. “We saw some officers coming in and out,” said nearby resident Lillian Spetrini. Detectives are looking into the incident as a death investigation. “The walls are kind of thin I guess, occassionally I’ve heard arguments or have heard loud noises,” said Jonas Elliott who also lives nearby. “The police department want the community to know there is no threat to the community, as this is an isolated incident,” the department said in a statement. A cause of death has not been released.
