FM native loses ‘Best Regional Roots Album’ after Grammy nod

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Fort Myers native and The Revelers saxophonist Chris Miller did not win a Grammy Monday.

Miller was born and raised in Southwest Florida where he attended Cypress Lake High School. His band received its first Grammy nomination in the Best Regional Roots category for their record ‘Get Ready.’

On Monday, Miller and The Revelers lost the 58th Annual Grammy Award to Jon Clearly for ‘Go Go Juice.’

The band’s music is a fusion of swamp-pop and Cajun culture. Miller said The Revelers’ album is packed with music for dancers.

“We’re really proud of the record and I think if you put it on it will get you movin’ one way or another,” Miller said. “The dance halls are very much still alive and people go out and dance two-step and waltzes and zydeco and the music we play is sort of a mix of all the root music that comes from Louisiana.”

Miller’s father, Bruce, lives in Iona and said his son is joining the ranks of a small group of people who have been honored with a Grammy nomination.

“He’s living the dream right now,” Bruce said. “It’s not something that happens to everybody or even a lot of people.”

Even without a Grammy win, Miller said the nomination has helped The Revelers land more shows. He said the experience has been humbling.

“It’s really surreal to even be in the same realm as some of those guys that were my heroes and still are, is quite an honor and very humbling,” he said.
