CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Two teens are accused of paying with fake cash at a Cape Coral Target.

The minors were busted on Monday trying to spend counterfeit $100 bills.

Target says it’s been on alert since counterfeit money started showing up at a number of Florida stores recently.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the store was prepared when the suspects walked inside. The loss prevention manager watched one of the teens pick up a $270 breast pump, then go to the checkout.

An employee opened a register specifically to handle the teen’s transaction and said the suspect handed over three, fake $100 bills.

After the sale was complete, the teen was taken into custody.

Target stores say they’ve been losing money over the fake bills, and they’re working with a Secret Service task force to make arrests.
