ESTERO, Fla.- Council members are celebrating a year of firsts for the village of Estero. Thursday marks one year since it was officially named a village. Just in time to mark the occasion, the U.S. Postal Service approved two zip codes within Estero to have the village’s name on their addresses.

Estero Mayor Nick Batos says this has been years in the making. He says many people who lived in Estero didn’t want to have another city on their address.

“We strarted out with absolutely nothing. We didn’t have a pencil and we didn’t have a pen. We had no offices so I think the dedication of the village council, the staff and the people of Estero.. I think we’ve accomplished a lot,” said Batos.

Bates says leaders of Estero have passed numerous ordinances in the past year, with many others still in the works.

“We’ve got our land use committees established, many ordinances started and passed.. we’re really on the way. We have a large project on the way for our town center. We have work being planned for highway studies,” said Batos.
