Thieves target boats in Royal Harbor community

NAPLES, Fla. – Naples Police are looking for the thieves who stole motor parts off of several boats in the Royal Harbor community over the weekend.

“It’s very brazen. Someone would come up into your canal,” said Terry Forshier, HOA president for Royal Harbor.

“Obviously to us, they’re coming by water and not by the road because we have security cameras on all of our entrances and exits here in Royal Harbor.”

Forshier says the thieves removed the motors by unscrewing the bolts.

“It’s an expensive loss! We’re trying to figure out what kind of a boat they would have to have to come in, carry a 150-200 pound lower end, put it in a boat and then where would they go to unload it?”

He says several residents are looking through surveillance video in hopes of helping police catch the suspects.

“To find out if they have any suspicious activity in the middle of the night on their cameras. If we can catch you, we will.”

Residents are also trying to come up with new ways to prevent more thefts from happening by rechecking their security lights, installing sensors on their decks, and alarms on their boats.
