Jason Day pulls out of Naples golf tournament

Tournament officials announced that Jason Day has withdrawn from the 27th annual Franklin Templeton Shootout scheduled for December 7-12, 2015 at the Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples.

“Regrettably, I am withdrawing from the 2015 Franklin Templeton Shootout to stay in Ohio with my family and newborn daughter Lucy,” said Day. “Our win in 2014 was the beginning of an incredible run for me and I hope I can return to compete in the event in the future.”

Day was scheduled to defend his title with Cameron Tringale in the 12-team competition. Tringale will now partner with Chris Kirk, a four-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including this year’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Kirk, currently 41st in the world, was also a member of the victorious United States’ team at the Presidents Cup in October.

The Franklin Templeton Shootout is the longest-running PGA TOUR-sanctioned post-season event and, throughout its history, the tournament has included many of golf’s greatest players. The Shootout will once again feature a different format during each of the three competitive rounds: Scramble (Thursday), Modified Alternate Shot (Friday) and Better Ball (Saturday).
