Publix donates $175,000 to Harry Chapin Food Bank

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Publix and Publix Supermarket Charities stopped by The Harry Chapin Food Bank on Wednesday, to  make a huge donation of money and food.

The supermarket is donating more than $2 million in November to 12 Feeding America partner food banks, including The Harry Chapin Food Bank in Southwest Florida. Publix, presented a check for $120,000 for the purchase of a brand new refrigeration truck.

A large semi also dropped off 22 pallets of food, coming in at a value of $55,000 that will help feed more than 30,000 families in the five county area The Harry Chapin Food Bank serves. In all, Publix Supermarket Charities is on track to surpass more than $40 million in donations this year.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank provides food to more than 30,000 people through a network of 150 partner agencies every month.
