Child, 3, who shot himself recovering, to return home soon

MIAMI (AP) – A 3-year-old who shot himself in the head will be returning home soon after recovering from his injury.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1Q9zZZR ) reports Darnal Mundy II can now walk and talk and most of his motor skills have returned after undergoing surgery. He doesn’t have the full use of his right arm or leg, however.

Authorities say Mundy found a gun at his home and shot himself between his eyes in August. The bullet exited the left side of his skull.

Doctors at Holtz Children’s Hospital removed a section of his skull from the left side of his head to allow for swelling.

Doctors believe Mundy will be home in time for his birthday in about two weeks.

Police say they found no reason to press charges against the parents.
