FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Lee County School Board has offered a three year contract to Dr. Greg Adkins.

The board voted unanimously on the $185,000 contract that includes $725 per month of travel expenses and a 30 day notice of termination.

Adkins was sworn in as acting superintendent in September after former Superintendent Nancy Graham resigned following two years on the job.

Adkins wasted no time in getting to work, cutting all district exams used for progress monitoring. Students will only be required to take state-mandated exams and other tests assigned by their teachers.

The board said the school system needs more stability and they think Adkins is the right person for the job.

Some went before the board at Tuesday’s meeting to praise the decision to extend a contract to Adkins while others were angry the board added the agenda item late, saying they did not allow the public to be aware and respond.
