Police say mother charged after child found alone in filth

APOPKA, Fla. (AP) – A Florida mother has been charged after authorities say she left her 7-year-old child in deplorable conditions while she went out drinking.

Apopka police say 26-year-old Jennifer Oyola was arrested after a neighbor found her son standing outside an apartment building. She bonded out of jail Tuesday night after being charged with child cruelty.

Police say the child told officers that he was waiting for his mother to come home from work, but she hadn’t shown up.

Police say Oyola was later found sleeping on a park bench near her apartment. Police say Oyola, who appeared intoxicated, told them she had went out with friends.

Police say inside Oyola’s apartment they found cat feces, trash, kitchen knives, and beer bottles.

It wasn’t clear if Oyola has an attorney.
