Two fishermen rescued on Marco Island during storm

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – The Marco Island Fire Department rescued two fishermen who got caught in a storm Tuesday night.

The boaters were on an inflatable raft fishing on the Marco River when a storm rolled through around 6:30 p.m. Somehow, their boat deflated and they started taking on water. They were able to find an island where they were stranded until Marco Island Fireboat 50 came to their rescue.

Captain Dustin Beatty says it’s important to have a plan of action, especially during the severe weather season.

“We like to remind boaters to have a float plan, have all kinds of safety equipment, life jackets for everybody on board, let everyone know what time you’re going, what time you’ll be back,” Captain Beatty said.

The captain says it’s also important to check the radar before heading out.

Both fishermen were brought back to shore safely with no injuries.
