COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – One man is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, after he crashed a stolen motorcycle on Alligator Alley.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to pull over two motorcycles driving recklessly on I-75 southbound near Golden Gate Parkway around 4:13 Friday morning. Deputies attempted to pull the motorcyclists over, but said the drivers refused. They ended the pursuit for safety reasons because of heavy traffic in the area.

The sheriff’s office received a call around 4:25 from one of the motorcyclists involved in the pursuit, saying they had crashed the vehicle near mile marker 89, east of State Road 29.

The driver, Yoel Valdes, was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries. The 40-year-old is being charged with grand theft auto, fleeing and alluding, and reckless driving.

CCSO is currently blocking a left lane on I-75 southbound near the exit to State Road 29 as they continue to investigate this incident. WINK News has a crew heading to the scene. Count on us for updates as they become available.
