911 dispatcher walks man through CPR to save dad's life

DADE CITY, Fla. (AP) – A 911 dispatcher is being credited for helping a Tampa Bay area man save the life of his father.

Early Saturday, 29-year-old Vince Hogan of Dade City called 911, saying that his 58-year-old father was having a seizure.

Dispatcher Lauren Bertke took over and guided the younger Hogan through cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Her supervisors tell The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1ExfKel) the recorded call could be used as a training tool. Lt. Dan Olds of Pasco County’s Safety Communications says she followed all protocols and “kept very calm.”

She explained the process as Hogan began chest compressions, telling him he was “doing a good job” as she counted. A little more than eight minutes after the 911 call was made, paramedics arrived and took over.

The elder Hogan is recovering at a hospital.
