End of year exams invalid for some courses in Collier County

Published: Updated:

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- There are more problems with Florida’s new testing system.

Collier County is not using end of year tests on final grades in three subjects after the state says the tests are invalid.

The State of Florida says it can’t verify the accuracy of tests in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. Therefore, those tests cannot be used to set 30 percent of final grades.

Collier schools are telling teachers to base final grades on how a student performs in each of the four quarters.

That means 25 percent of the grade will depend on how a student did, in each quarter of this school year. Administrators call it a student-centered decision.

Schools in Lee County have already told teachers to not count the finals in the same courses. Other finals in history and civics, will count toward 30 percent of the final grades.
