Accused takes plea deal in heinous Collier murder

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. – A man accused of one of the most graphic, heinous crimes covered in Collier County will spend 50 years in prison.

Christopher Serna, 38, had previous pleaded no contest to second degree murder charges.

Serna was arrested for the murder in 2011. Deputies say he stabbed his girlfriend 100 times, cut off her head posting it on a spike and then spread her body parts around the home.

Collier County Prosecutors say the plea deal is a win. In a statement to WINK News, Assistant State Attorney Dave Scuderi said “The goal was a life sentence and this effectively accomplishes that.”

Prosecutors say Bishop’s family was aware and understood why the state offered Serna the plea deal.

For four years, Bishop’s family has waited for closure. The State Attorney’s Office said this about the end of the case “there are always risks of having a jury trial. This plea resolves the case.”
