North Port fire crews monitor hot spots from Sunday brush fire

NORTH PORT, Fla.- The North Port Fire Department was on scene at Joe Wood Circle all night long and into the morning hours, monitoring hot spots from a Sunday evening brush fire.

That fire is just one that popped up in the area on Sunday evening, right near I-75, forcing emergency crews to shut down the interstate while they battled the fire. Heavy smoke was visible for hours. The interstate was closed at Kings Highway heading northbound, and at Toledo Blade Blvd. heading southbound.

WINK News counted almost a dozen hot spots still burning early this morning in the Joe Wood Circle area, but they were all in the containment area. Firefighters circled the area to make sure nothing got out of control, and will be mopping up today.
