Company proposes building indoor gun range in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The City of Cape Coral could get its first ever gun range.

LJK Holdings, a limited liability corporation, is asking for approval to build the indoor range on Del Prado Boulevard, near Southeast 12th Terrace.

The company wants a large building, with 12,000 square feet for shooting and another 12,000 for retail sales.

LJK Holdings wants the re-zoning to build the indoor range. The building would have 14 target lanes.

The proposed location is near a lot of stores and businesses, and there are neighborhoods on the other side of Southeast 15th Place.

The owners of the land have hired an engineering firm to work on the range. That firm tells WINK News it cannot comment on the plans, without permission of the owners.

Documents filed with the city say the facility would be open seven days a week, until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The engineers promise to use materials that would keep the noise of firing guns, inside the building.

Some people in this area say it would benefit gun owners.

“It’s safe, it’s convenient. You wouldn’t have to go out into the woods,” said resident Jose Nunez.

At a hair salon next to the site, a stylist has concerns about a gun range, because it would attract a steady crowd of gun-bearing patrons.

“A little unsettled, a little uneasy, definitely,” said Jenna Dapcic.

The gun range proposal goes before the zoning board April 1. If approved, the City Council would have the final say on the project.
