Dog stolen from Port Charlotte Home

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Tammie Mercer said Thursday afternoon a thief took her Yorkshire Terrier and television from her home.

“They took my Gracie Repunzel and the stupid TV,” Mercer said.

Mercer said someone broke into her home on Blalock Street in Port Charlotte and stole her 4-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. She said she thought the worst when she tried to open her front door.

“When I put it in the dead bolt to turn it, it was unlocked and I was just like ‘oh my God.’ I could see doors open, drawers pulled open, a closet door and I went into the garage,” she said.

Mercer said the burglar went through the doggie door.

“It was like my heart just sank and I got numb and thought I was in some kind of a dream.”

The burglar didn’t steal a diamond ring, which was in a jewelry box or anything else of value in the bedroom. The only other thing of value taken was a small television.

Mercer got Gracie four years ago after her mother died, then a month later her other dog died.

“Then I got Gracie, she was like a lifesaver and now somebody else has her,” Mercer said while fighting back tears.

The person who stole Gracie intentionally left a few clues.

“You could see Cody written all over the screen porch with someone’s finger, they just wrote Cody over and over and over with smiley faces,” added Harmony Davies, who is Mercer’s daughter.

Mercer says she doesn’t want to press charges against the person who stole Gracie, she just wants her dog to be returned.
