LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Several flights in and out of Southwest Florida International Airport were  diverted or cancelled Sunday night due to lighting problems on the runway.

RSW spokesperson Victoria Moreland told WINK News the “edge lights” on the runway are not operating properly. Those lights are what pilots use to help direct them while landing.

Moreland said a circuit problem caused the blackout. Crews were able to work on the lights later in the evening and repaired the problem by 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, travelers were frustrated because they did not know what was going on.

“At least tell us something. Put it up on the board,” said Kimberly Deakyne.

“I have not heard that ever…the lights. I’ve heard a lot of other reasons for delays. We’ve heard them all, this is a new one,” said Mike Walsh.

If you have a flight scheduled to fly in or out of RSW Sunday, call your airline.
