My name is Samantha Sturgeon. I previously waited with Brandon Castillo and his sister 2 weeks before Brandon was killed at the intersection of Hamilton and 10th St. every morning.
While waiting for child's bus to arrive do you ever wonder about other children who are unfortunate to have their parents unable to wait with them at their bus stop? Or when you see children unsupervised do you feel the need to protect them? On your way to work in the morning surely you see children waiting along the side of the road for their bus to arrive wishing they'd get off the road, right? But what's going on in the mind of those children? I heard the comments as I waited with Brandon and his sister so I think I have a good Idea:
"When is the bus getting here?" or "Is it almost here?" another was "I don't want to get my shoes dirty so I'm going to wait on the road." Or how about "That car better go around!"
What if we can prevent these children from an accident that can cause them their lives by simply giving them a solution to their problem? Let's keep these children satisfied! Afterall, they are our next generation. Their minds are so pure that they believe we are supernatural and perfect, but the truth is accidents happen. We are human.
Therefore, I have come before you to share a vision that not only benefit the lives of children but the parents and the concerned, as well. My vision includes placing benches and volunteers at every bus stop. Bringing a nation together by letting them know we care!
I also come before you to ask you for your help and support. Without the support of the community this vision may take a lot longer then expected. How many more children should have to die before we step in? How many children should have to suffer because they've seen their sibling or classmate die before their them. I believe this horrible way of dying can be prevented by a simple bench, a caring volunteer, and the help and support of the community.
