The people across the street from us bought their house after hurricane charley for 127,000.
in 2008. They decided to have the 2nd bathroom enlarged and consequently found out that the back half of the house and the roof are not legally done. The back house from the 2nd original owner was a lanai across the whole back of house with laundry room on end of it. Sometime between the 3rd and 4th owner, the lanai was closed in to make a room all but the carport end which they left screened and the laundry room was repiped on the OUTSIDE of the house to make it into a very small bathroom. They shingled the roof, never replaced the aluminum roof of the lanai. There were NO permits for any of the work. However when the people that now have it supposedly it passed all inspections that were necessary. They never would have known this was done had they not decided to enlarge the 2nd bath and applied and got hurricane shutters for the windows. Now the county says the house needs to be brought up to code to the tune of at least 80,000! They have a sign in their front yard telling about it all. The bank even allowed this sale to happen and when they complained they were told. " guess you need a good lawyer". Can you please help them out and get the word out about this? They are both disabled and as I am typing this the woman of the house is in the hospital due to all the stress concerning this. They cant get anyone to listen to them or to help them to straighten it out so they have put it in foreclosure. Lawyers want thousands up front to take the case so that dont work either. The county never should have allowed this sale to take place. Please do a story and help these people out. Another failure of the system and taking advantage of the handicapped.
