For three days and for the second time in a week, my gardner hubby trekked from the garage to the garden to the garage and back. Loaded with tarps, extension cords, insulation and 2X4's, he lovingly wrapped his fledgling tomatoes, peppers and my Japanese eggplant to stave off Mother Nature's joke on southwest Florida. Alas, this morning under the tarps and insulation with the lighting still burning, the tomatoes with their first gifts of sauce still intact are frozen. The ice in the bird bath next to the kitchen window should have been a hint to the disaster under the tarps. In fact all three bird baths have different degrees of frozen, some solid to the bottom. The good news is that the good gardner has more seedlings to replace our prizes. Let's hope the area farmers are as fortunate.
