Toscana Homes, a local Naples Builder is installing a Hurricane Proof Roof on Dolphin Lane in Port Royal.

Designed to withstand category 5 hurricanes, it eliminates the chance of termites. It's pitched just as in a traditional roof, so water will run off and can cut the energy bill by 30 percent.

Concrete roofs are secured to the structure's walls reinforcing the walls and making it virtually impossible for a hurricane to blow the roof off.

A web of rebar is laid down tor added strength before the roof is constructed of a single, continuous pour and is tied directly to the rebar of the walls.

The cost of the Hurricane Proof Roof is very similar to that of traditional roofing.
