After Fay lashed out with wind and rain, we made our way to town from the Estates to check on the store my husband runs. On the way, our hearts fell when we saw the tattered remains of the giant American Flag outside the Italian American Club in Naples. In all the rush to secure property and lives, the most important symbol of American pride and patriotism was forgotten. I always love to see the flag way up high, billowing in the breeze, but I also think flying it comes with a certain amount of responsibility and respect. Let's just hope that soon there is a newer, brighter, and stronger flag flying in town, never to be left behind when preparing for a storm. Remember, it will be those proud Americans that will come in firetrucks, police cars, and ambulances to rescue you when in need, should things be worse in the next battle with Mother Nature.

Flags are replaceable-lives are not. Perhaps you should reconsider your priorites. We live in the UK and have only experienced two hurricanes here. We were on Sanibel when Wilma landed and were very impressed with the care we received in the shelter.
