Electrical fire at The Humane Society Naples closes clinic Thursday morning.

Emergency units from the East Naples Fire District and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call placed by staff at The Humane Animal Clinic at approximately 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning. Staff noted smoke coming from two air conditioning vents in the clinic lobby.

The Humane Animal Clinic occupies the south side of The Humane Society Naples located at 370 Airport-Pulling Road North in Naples.

Staff and one dog just anesthetized for surgery were evacuated from the clinic. Firefighters pronounced the fire was out by 10:40 and determined it was an electrical malfunction in an air conditioning unit serving only the clinic.

Damage was limited to the air conditioning unit and no animals or staff in the adjoining building were in any danger or suffered any injury.

The Humane Society Naples’ Executive Director Michael Simonik said that the air conditioner will be repaired today. In the meantime, the clinic will be open for client visits, but not surgeries. “We are extremely glad and so fortunate that emergency personnel responded quickly and that the damage was so limited,” he said.

Simonik also mentioned that any donations to help fix the unit would be most helpful and appreciated. Donations can be made online at HSNaples.org or by mail to 370 Airport-Pulling Road North, Naples, FL 34104.
