Controversy continues to surround Lee County Animal Services. Sadly, the current director Donna Ward is trying to make changes similar to the ones she instituted in PA without regard to the popular opinion of the county citizens. Being a public servant simply dictates that the needs of the public supersedes the needs, wants, and desires of management. How does reducing the waiting period speed things up for adoption when it comes to managing an animals life? It looks like many dogs will fall to the evil needle. Ms Ward obviously thinks that it will reduce the amount of euthanasia. I think that if her plan is successful, many dogs and cats will bite the proverbial dust before the theory is a success or failure. Who knows if it will work? I would not want to be in her place if it backfires.

An even more disturbing fact is Ms. Ward's qualifications; or lack thereof. If memory serves me right, the minimum qualifications for employment requires an MBA or a Master's of Science degree. Ms. Ward proudly touts an Associates degree. It is disclosed on her employment application. (public information). Previous experience is helpful, but it does not constitute the entire requirements needed to hire the right person. I doubt seriously that any changes that she brings to the Lee County Animal Services are her own.

It is not Ms Ward's fault. She threw her hat in the ring like everyone else. It is the fault of people like Bill Hammond to allow this to happen because they are looking for a quick fix to a problem that should have taken time to find the most qualified candidate. She is not the most qualified and she will have to spend a long time in night school to get the required education. Now the county commissioners are entertaining her lame ideas; exposing the ones who are up for re-election to potential issues they do not need. Have fun y'all!
