Childswish visits Clewiston
USSA Kids Fishing Lake Okeechobee

It often amazes me how one event can lead to the preverbal snowball effect. Last December, USSA took a young man named Chris to the Roland Martin Marina on Lake Okeechobee bass fishing. Fishing Guide Mark King and his wife Diane were really touched by the whole process and wanted to schedule another fishing event for several children in early 2008.
It wasn’t long afterwards a fishing event was scheduled for April 26th, and I was on my way back down to beautiful Clewiston, FL to fish with seven children and their families on Lake Okeechobee.
The professional bass circuit FLW provided lots of excellent fishing gear for the kids. Numerous pro fishing anglers served as guides, while local volunteers and restaurants provided the food for the event.
Besides excellent fishing and accommodations, Diane King who headed the project devised a themed evening entertainment that was a real treat. All American-Red White and Blue on Friday and Hawaiian on Saturday.
They held a little fishing derby for the children and after weighing in their fish they all received trophy and gifts presented by Mayor Chamness and Mary Anne Martin. They also received a blessed cross necklace made by “Michael” who is critical with cancer.
We would like to thank Diane and Mark King and their family, Roland Martin Marina, and all the anglers and volunteers that made this event come true for the young fishermen. May God bless you all!
