At the River Park Community Center we have the future of our community at the forefront of our mission. We keep this focus by continually encouraging the youth of the community to break out of their “at-risk” title and strive for greatness. We try to help them achieve this by encouraging them to attend school and the Recreation Sampler program (after school program). To help motivate the kids to attend school every day, do their best, raise their grades, participate in the Recreation Sampler program and be an outstanding citizen, a challenge was set forth in September. In return for the effort put forth by the students to reach their goals the staff said they would arrange a camping trip to Fort Wilderness Campground on Disney property in Orlando.
The kids have kept their side of the bargain and now the staff is keeping up their end of the deal, but we need some help. We need the communities help. We are reaching out to the community to help us raise the remaining $3000 we need (we have already raised $580) in order to take the kids on this 3 night camping adventure.
Below you will find the exact criteria for the trip as well as a cost breakdown.
. The reward program works in the following way:
At midterms and the end of the semester the student shows a “C” average or above and they are entered into a drawing.
If the student is given a “student of the day” certificate they are put into the drawing.
At the end of every week if the students come to the Recreation Sampler program every day that week they are entered into a drawing.
Students can be entered into a drawing as counselors deem them worthy (going above and beyond expectation in school and/or community).
Toward the end of the school year (approximately May 14th) we will draw about 20 names out of those that have been entered. These 20 will have the opportunity to join us for 3 nights of camping at Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Campground. During our stay, scheduled to leave on Wednesday May 28th, we will camp, cook, swim and hopefully visit a Walt Disney World Theme Park. We plan on returning on Saturday May 31st.
The cost for this reward program is as follows:
Creekside Meadow (Campground) $10/person/night (25 average) $750
Tent Rental $30/tent/night (sleeps 4 – 7 tents) $630
Wood (Only available through Disney) $50
Food (Just an average, bring food with us) $400
Camping and Meals Total Cost: $1830
25 1 Day Theme Park Tickets $70/ticket $1750
