Relive Era’s of Florida History at the ‘Old Florida Festival’
--Historical re-enactors, craft workers and performers offer an old-fashioned weekend of fun--
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (February 29, 2008) -- Reliving what could be forgotten, the Collier County Museum hosts the 19th Annual Old Florida Festival Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2. The popular event offers all ages an adventure back in time, highlighting historical periods throughout Florida’s rich 10,000-year history – the Civil War, the Seminoles, the settlers, World War II, and several other historical eras that form our unique place in American history.
The Museum invites attendees to roam from camp to camp and watch demonstrations while listening to stories from re-enactors about their particular era – taste Indian fry-bread, marvel at the uniformed Spanish Conquistador on his horse, watch Indians and settlers fight at the replica of Seminole Fort, and much more. Sponsored and presented by Embarq, the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and Friends of the Collier County Museum, the Old Florida Festival is the museum’s largest event of the year.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students; children 8 and younger are admitted free. Proceeds from the Festival benefit the Museum’s school outreach program and the Children’s Museum Express. The Collier County Museum is located in the County Government Center, 3301 East US-41, in Naples.
