CHARLOTTE COUNTY HABITAT SELECTED FOR AMERICORPS*VISTA PROGRAM
Charlotte County, FL, February 4, 2008 – Another resource is coming to Charlotte County and our local Habitat affiliate is celebrating its new arrival. AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) has recently approved Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity to host a project to eliminate poverty housing in Charlotte County.
Habitat will recruit a full time dedicated volunteer to serve as a Development Assistant and to educate Charlotte County residents of the issues of poverty housing.
“America was built on the spirit of volunteerism and so was our community. Now is an exciting time to create a new partnership with AmeriCorps*VISTA as we continue to build more than houses,” said Mike Mansfield, Habitat’s Executive Director. Mansfield noted that volunteer service is everyone’s responsibility and each of us can make a difference. “Putting our faith into action is one of Habitat’s founding principles,” he added.
Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian based organization that builds houses with low, to very low income families. The houses are funded by local donors and are built by volunteers and partner families from the community and sold at no profit–no interest to partner families in need. The mortgage payments made by homeowners are used to build more houses.
