Kiwanis Taste of Pine Island Huge Success
Club Met Fundraising Goal While Thousands Tasted Local Cuisine

PINE ISLAND, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2008) – The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island’s Taste of Pine Island, held Sunday, Jan. 27 in Philips Park, was a huge fundraising success. The club reports that they met their fundraising goal for the Kiwanis Pine Island Youth Scholarship Fund, which assists Pine Island students with their higher education costs. Since 1985, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island has provided over $100,000 in scholarships.

The Kiwanis Taste of Pine Island’s success was attributed to bringing in three times as many vendors, which boosted record attendance. “We estimate attendance was up one third over previous years,” said Pat Burman, event chairman.

The annual event featured over 60 local restaurants and craft vendors including Moretti’s Seafood Restaurant, Lazy Flamingo Restaurant, The Matlacha Oyster House and Matlacha’s Perfect Cup- who was the winner of the 2008 Southwest Florida Chowder Cook-off Contest. Other activities at the Kiwanis Taste of Pine Island included the Fish Drop Drawing, live music, dancers and children’s games.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island is a community service organization that meets every Friday at Bert’s of Matlacha.
